Frequently Asked Questions

Are the horse sitters experienced in caring for horses?

Kirstys Horses takes pride in the high standard of care we provide. To ensure this standard is maintained all Kirstys Horses horse sitters are carefully selected and have all achieved a minimum of the BHS Stage 1, or an equivalent equine qualification. All our horse sitters receive further training from us before they commence work caring for your horse.

Will I get to meet the horse sitter before they look after my horse?

Yes. Before any services or care is provided, you will have an initial meeting with your local horse sitter enabling you to ask any questions you may have. This initial meeting also gives the horse sitter a chance to meet you, your horse and also familiarize themselves with your yard. The meeting will also include both you and the horse sitter setting a care plan for your horse. This care plan will ensure that your horse receives the exact care you require for it while you're unavailable and allow your horse sitter to follow a routine set out by you.

Is the horse sitter insured?

Yes. All Kirstys Horses horse sitters all fully insured for both property damage and injury or death to a horse/pony. However, we do advice that all horse/pony owners have their own equine insurance policies. Kirstys Horses or their horse sitters cannot be held responsible for any damage to property, loss, injury or death to a horse through natural or unavoidable causes.

Will I need to provide equipment for the horse sitter?

Generally yes, it is common that most horse owners are able to provide yard tools and general equipment and therefore our horse sitters don't carry equipment unless request. Should you require your horse sitter to provide their own equipment it should be arranged directly with them.

What if there is an accident while I am away?

Kirstys Horses sincerely hopes that no accidents occur while any horse is being cared for by one of our horse sitters. However, we do appreciate that accidents do happen and both horses and ponies, however quiet normally, can get themselves into trouble. During your initial meeting by your local horse sitter you will be asked to give all your horses' insurance details, vets and farrier numbers as well as emergency contact details for either yourself or a person you specify. This will ensure that should anything happen to your horse while you're away, your horse sitter will be able to contact relevant people quickly and get your horse the attention it needs. Kirstys Horses and their horse sitters will always act in the best interest of your horse or pony.

What happens if I am delayed in getting home?

Your local Kirstys Horses horse sitter will continue to look after your horse until you call to say you have returned home. This ensures that your horse or pony will never miss a feed if you're stuck in a meeting or your flight has been delayed.

Who do I pay?

You will pay Kirstys Horses Limited directly using a debit or credit card. Payment will be taken each day once care has been completed. In most cases this is within 24hours.

How can I make a complaint?

It is very important to Kirstys Horses that a high standard of service is maintained at all times. Should you have any complaints about the standard of service you received please contact us.
